If you have adoptive parents
There are no provisions for adoptive parents in faraidh. Generally, the interests of your adoptive parents can be covered through a Will. You can will away up to 1/3 of your estate to your adoptive parents. The “Principle of 1/3″ is derived from the Hadith below:
Sa’ad bin Abu Waqqas narrated: In the year of the last Hajj of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him), I became seriously ill. The Prophet (peace be upon him) visited me enquiring about my health. I told him, “I am reduced to this state because of illness and I am wealthy and have no heirs except for a daughter. Should I give two-thirds of my property to charity?”He said “No.”. I asked, “Half?” He said, “No.”. Then he added, “One-third is also too much. You better leave your heirs wealthy rather than leave them poor and begging from others.” (The hadith is found in Sahih Muslim)
